Description
The Hamadan tour takes travelers deep into history, to the era of the “Medians” and the reign of “Diyako.” This historic city, also known as “Hegmataneh,” features the remnants of the city and fortress of Diyako at the Hegmataneh Hill, making it one of the cities with a very rich history. Hamadan is considered the first capital of the land of Iran and was designated as the capital of the history and civilization of Iran in 2006. Throughout various historical periods, such as the rule of the Achaemenids, Parthians, Sassanids, Al-Buyeh, and Seljuks, it has been one of the main capitals, which is why it holds significant historical importance. The name Hamadan first appeared as “Amadaneh” or “Amadi” in an inscription of an Assyrian king from 1300 BC, indicating that the history of Hamadan’s foundation goes back over 3,000 years. Hamadan Province shares its borders with Zanjan and Qazvin to the north, Kermanshah and Kurdistan to the west, Markazi Province to the east, and Lorestan Province to the south. The people of Hamadan are warm and hospitable, with the majority speaking Persian with a Hamadani accent. A portion of the population is composed of Turkish speakers, although they are in the minority. Hamadan is a popular location in the Shahnameh of Ferdowsi, as well as the works of Rumi and Attar, with Ferdowsi referring to it as the “precious city.” This province is the birthplace of many prominent figures from both pre-Islamic and post-Islamic eras. Among the notable figures from the pre-Islamic period are “Mandana,” the mother of Cyrus the Great, and “Fatak,” the father of Mani, the founder of Manichaeism. Notable figures from the post-Islamic era include “Baba Tahir,” “Mirzadeh Eshghi,” “Avicenna,” and “Aref Qazvini,” many of whose tombs can be visited during the Hamadan tour.
